Volunteer FAQs

Do I need to fill out an application if I volunteered last year?

No, but you will need to log into your KindnessConnect account and apply to the current year's opportunity. Once logged in you can select your preferred shift. If you have forgotten your username and password you can follow the standard steps to retrieve them.

Can I bring my pet or my children with me when I volunteer?

Safety first!  Although we love pets and adore children, bringing them to your post is not permitted. It is not a safe environment for children or pets as you will be busy carrying out your task. Additionally, all volunteers must follow the standard application process and must be at least 14 years old to be assigned a position. If you want to include your children in this worthwhile event why not register them as a team and encourage them to fundraise. Depending on your shift preference, you can join them for the walk making it a win/win for everyone!

Is there a place to leave my personal belongings?

There will be a designated volunteer area used for sign in/out. From here you will pick up your identification, instructions and any supplies needed to carry out your role. This area is guarded at all times for you to leave personal items such as coats and other non-valuable items. The Breast Cancer Society is not liable for any lost or stolen property. We recommend you leave all valuables on your person or at home.

Does volunteering for Mother’s Day Walk qualify for high school community service hours?

Absolutely! Along with the hours that you will receive for the day of the event, you will also receive hours for the orientation session and any other meetings that you attend.

How many hours do I have to commit when volunteering for Mother’s Day Walk?

It’s up to you! You will be required to attend a 1 hour orientation plus the hours of your scheduled shift, usually 4-5 hours in length. If you want or have more time to give there are planning and entertainment committee that you can join. These committees meet at least 2-3 times prior to the walk.

Is there an age requirement  to volunteer?

You must be 14 years of age and require signed parental or guardian consent. Exceptions can be made based on parental accompaniment. Committee members must be 18 years or older.

As a volunteer is it possible for me to fundraise AND participate in the Mother’s Day Walk?

Yes! In fact, we strongly encourage you to do so. Many of the volunteer positions are completed when the walk begins which allows you to do both.  Just let your volunteer coordinator know that you plan on participating before you are assigned a role.

Can I bring friends with me to volunteer?

Absolutely! But everyone must follow the volunteer application process and attend orientation. Please keep in mind that while we will do our best to schedule you together, it’s not always possible.
